The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for further series.

However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
