Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
