Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
